Rúben Santos Gato Alves Dias (born 14 May 1997) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Manchester City and the Portugal national team. Known for his strength, leadership, aerial ability, and composure with the ball, Dias is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world. Dias came through Benfica's youth academy, making his professional debut for the reserves in 2015 before being promoted to the first team in 2017. He won his first trophy with Benfica in the 2018–19 season, claiming the Primeira Liga title. In September 2020, he signed for Manchester City for a reported fee of €68 million plus add-ons. In his first season, he won the Premier League, EFL Cup, and PFA Players' Player of the Year award. With Manchester City, he has won five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
