Declan Rice (born 14 January 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder or centre-back for Premier League club Arsenal and the England national team. Known for his stamina, passing, tackling, and leadership, Rice is considered one of the best midfielders in the world. Rice joined Chelsea at the age of seven before being released at 14. He joined West Ham United and made his senior debut in 2017. He was appointed club captain in 2021 at the age of 22. He helped West Ham win the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League, the club's first major trophy in 43 years. In 2023, Arsenal signed Rice for £105 million, making him the most expensive British footballer and Arsenal's record signing. Rice has represented England at UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and was named in the Team of the Tournament at Euro 2024.
