Rodrigo Hernández Cascante (born 22 June 1996), known as Rodri, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and the Spain national team. Widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, he is known for his work rate, technical skills, and passing ability. Rodri began his senior career with Villarreal before joining Atlético Madrid in 2018. In 2019, Manchester City activated his release clause of €70 million, making him their record signing. With Manchester City, he has won five Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He was a key player in Spain's victory at UEFA Euro 2024 and won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, the first defensive midfielder to win the award since Matthias Sammer in 1996.
