Florian Richard Wirtz (born 3 May 2003) is a German professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and the Germany national team. Considered one of the best young players in the world, he is known for his dribbling, passing ability, and versatility. Wirtz joined Bayer Leverkusen in January 2020 from Cologne's youth system. He became Leverkusen's youngest-ever player and goalscorer, breaking Kai Havertz's records at the club. In the 2023–24 season, Wirtz was instrumental in Leverkusen's unbeaten Bundesliga-winning campaign and domestic double, their first major trophies in 31 years and 11 years respectively. He was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season and won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award. Wirtz won the Golden Boy award in 2023 and finished fourth in the 2024 Ballon d'Or voting.
